Sun Damage: Roofing Edition

We all know the effects the sun can have on our skin. But what about that other outer layer that protects us? That’s right– we’re talking about your home. More specifically, your home’s roof. Read through our list of the top 4 signs that the scorching sun is assaulting yours.

Warped

Smiles are great– as long as they aren’t coming from your shingles! Curled upward, or smiling, roof products are results of extreme heat on your home’s topper. Although a few warped shingles won’t make a huge difference in the quality of your roof, they will only get worse as time goes on, and too many warped shingles can compromise your roof’s effectiveness.

Shingle decay

Common in older shingles, decaying roof products look deformed, cracked or rotted. Like with warped shingles, having a small amount of decay won’t seriously compromise the integrity of your rooftop, but once the symptoms of sun damage start, the rest of your shingles typically aren’t far behind.

Discolored

Although your shingles’ most important job is to protect your family from the outdoors, they do more than that– they enhance your curb appeal! But over time, just like the sun dries and discolors anything left outdoors, it does the same to these products that protect your home. While this may be considered only an aesthetic issue, it can often be a precursor to further damage.

Water Damage

Last and certainly not least is the biggest, baddest roof problem of all– leaks. Caused from the warped and decaying shingles previously mentioned, this moisture mishap can result in water damage, and even mold, if left untreated.

You may not be able to slather your roof in SPF to protect it from the sun, but you can do it one better– contact P.I. Roofing. From inspections to repairs to total replacement, we can take care of all your roofing needs.
